About Stone Bird Dancing

Lois Young lives in SE Utah after spending her life in Seattle, Chicago and the Willamette Valley of Oregon. She has a background in Fine Art and a Master's Degree from the Art Institute of Chicago. Over the past 30 years, painting and sculpture slowly gave way to the making of body decorations.  In addition, she is a long time practitioner of healing arts: Registered Nurse, Reiki Master and Cranial Sacral Therapist. The promotion of deep health, balance and expansion of one's life experience has long been her focus.

She has a life-long passion for stones: the Earth beauty they reflect, and the power they possess.  Before she came to live in Bluff, UT, regular pilgrimages were made to the beautiful high desert of the Southwest for over 35 years until it drew her there completely; there where that incredible stone beauty and power lays naked everywhere, available to inspire visually, to encourage exploration overland or to provide refuge within it's soaring walls.

The making of beautiful, balancing, and nourishing adornment is an enjoyable combination of play using stone in its myriad forms, and a passion for offering objects of delight that will bring their splendor and energy to the wearer.

Her business name of Stone Bird Dancing is inspired by at least two things: the beautiful petroglyphs of cranes that can be found “dancing” on nearby canyon walls, plus the play of light in and around the stones that find their way into the jewelry she makes.    Her work is sold at Cow Canyon Trading Post in Bluff, Utah, the Durango Arts Center, and at the Moab Arts Festival. It now adorns people from nearly all parts of the world.
